Rhone Rangers comes to the East Bay

The Craneway Pavilion in Richmond is the first East Bay venue for the Rhone Rangers grand tasting on April 6.

Welcome, Rhone Rangers: For the first time, the largest annual gathering and tasting of Rhone wines will be held in the East Bay, not San Francisco. The 17th Rhone Rangers bash will draw more than 2,000 wine lovers to the historic Craneway Pavilion at Ford Point in Richmond on April 6. There, they'll meet 100 American winemakers pouring 400-plus Rhone-varietal wines, while taking in spectacular views of the bay and city skyline from the renovated automobile assembly plant built by Henry Ford.

We love the easy parking and private ferries, and we're stoked that there will be complimentary shuttle service from El Cerrito BART. Finally, somebody figured out that Fort Mason is not the most convenient wine venue for grand tastings (though a smaller Rhone Rangers winemaker dinner is being held there on April 5). $65 to $295. Details: 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (seminar series); 3 to 6 p.m. (grand tasting), 1414 Harbour Way South, Richmond.
